How to Overcome Fear

by Jul 10, 2022Faith, Uncategorized

“Each of us must confront our own fears, must come face to face with them. How we handle our fears will determine where we go with the rest of our lives. To experience adventure or to be limited by the fear of it.” Judy Blume

I believe that there are different kinds of fears. A person can have the fear of God, which is a great thing as it instills reverence in them towards God. There is also a natural fear instilled within us that provides protection from doing wreckless things that can cause harm to our bodies.

However, when someone experiences an unnatural fear that often paralyzes them and leaves them in a frantic emotional state, it could be a sign of an emotion driven by demonic, spiritual forces.

Truth About Fear

Fear has a way of changing our focus from God to the problems around us.

It has the potential to change our confession from faith in God’s promise to the fear we are feeling.

All throughout Scripture we are commanded to not fear. The reason we are constantly reminded of this truth is because we are not alone.

God is with us.

That’s the promise God gives us to combat fear.

Now, you may have reasons to fear, but if you shift your focus you’ll notice that you have a greater reason to not be afraid. He is with you. He will never leave you.

Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.

Deuteronomy 31:6

God is not afraid of your problems, your doubts, or even your fears.

Conquer your fears before they conquer you.

When God brought Israel to the Red Sea, he gave them the promise that the enemies they saw, they would never see again.

And Moses said to the people, Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever.

Exodus 14:13

God doesn’t promise us a life without storms, enemies, troubles, or struggles. But, He promises to be with us through it. Israel had to remind themselves, if God brought us to this, he will bring us through this.

The situation looked terrible—they couldn’t swim through the Red Sea, they didn’t have a boat; but it was in that moment that God did something new. He made a way where there was no way. He is a way maker. You have to learn to trust God in moments of fear. Trust in the nature of God, and His character. This will only grow as you spend time with Him and learn to know Him. You can’t trust someone you don’t really know.

Jesus said of Himself,

I am the way, the truth and the life.

John 14:6

If it seems like you’re drowning in the problems you are facing right now and there is no way out, take it one day at a time. Unload those emotions to Jesus.

Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.

1 Peter 5:7

Keep in mind, your Lord is the way maker.

Today’s Confession:

1. I have reasons to be afraid, but I have greater reasons not to fear:

Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.

Deuteronomy 31:6

2. If God brought me to this, He will bring me through this:

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

Psalms 23:4

3. God will make a way when there is no way:

I would have lost heart, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.

Psalm 27:13
